Architectural Rendering of Reimagined Center on Venice Boardwalk
When the need arose to update a facility that had served a small population of elderly Jewish seniors, we took the opportunity to transform it — and by doing so, to transform the community!
Thanks to a generous naming gift from the Allison and Bennett Rosenthal Charitable Foundation and a lead gift from the Snyder Family Foundation, our plans are in the works to turn the Israel Levin Center into a state-of-the-art space dedicated to meaningful engagement across the generations.
The new structure will serve as the physical expansion of Federation’s NuRoots Initiative, a movement of Jews in their 20s and 30s who are building community across L.A. in new ways. Inspired by Jewish values, NuRoots is about cultivating creativity and exploring spirituality through personal connections, neighborhood by neighborhood.
“I just love the new, fresh direction NuRoots is taking to engage people, to bring them in and make them want to learn,” said Allison Rosenthal, who sits on our NuRoots Committee. “This new center is an innovative way to show Judaism to them in a way that meets them where they are.”
The revamped boardwalk facility will be a magnet for the entire community. Naturally, it will elevate our senior programming. And by drawing young adults from across the city, it will create intergenerational experiences for all who come to see art exhibitions, enjoy concerts, and celebrate holidays. Farm-to-table cooking classes, workshops, and more will be featured in a beautiful, modern setting where toddlers, young adults, boomers, and seniors can connect with each other through a dynamic expression of Jewish life.
The saying “Go big or go home” comes to mind. With this remarkable transformation, we’re doing both — we’re going big and creating a stunning new home for Jewish life.
